(yes, I'm still in Tahoe, relaxing and chillin', but I got to thinkin' today)
I'm thinking I may want to HAND QUILT my Modify Tradition Round 1 quilt top!
After seeing Anna Maria Horner's posts here and here, it's just really making me want to try it. I know it's hard and time consuming, but I love hand stitching. Well I haven't tried to hand quilt yet, but I love doing the binding on a quilt, and I love to knit and crochet, so why not try hand quilting? I've always wanted to and this quilt means so much to me, so I think it may just be perfect! I'd like to get a whole bunch of different colored chunky Perle cotton thread and just outline my blocks and the designs within...taking one square at a time. It wouldn't have to be totally "quilted" for me. I love how the hand quilting looks, like Anna's done in the above links.
What do you guys think? I'm done with my "have to get done" projects (if you don't count catching up on my quilt alongs I'm involved in!) so I'd really like to finish this quilt up. My other option for the quilting on this would to just do a meander stipple stitch.
go for it!! I'm about to try hand quilting also. Thanks for the links to Anna Maria Horner's blog. That will really help me. Have you seen Victoria's blog, The Silly BooDilly? (I don't know how to link on a comment) That's where I got my motivation for hand quilting. I like your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for it! The quilt is amazing, and when something means that much to you you want it to be done just the way you imagine it. I'm in the same boat after seeing AMH's posts the other day but I have to wait until all my projects underway right now are finished. I'm thinking it's going to be a great summer project for me... we could keep each other motivated/supplied with tips :)
ReplyDeleteI love the layout of the blocks on your wall! This has been such a fun and beautiful project to watch you do. Hand quilting? Go for it. And who says it has to be like our grandmas would have done it? I've seen such lovely stitching that wasn't even close to the 10 stitches per inch they would brag about. LOL
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your vacation!
I have handquilted a few things and LOVE it! It is nice because it can go other places with you - like outside, etc. It is very relaxing to me although it does take a while. I say go for it too! and enjoy. Laura
ReplyDeleteOMG, do it! I've been reading AMH's hand quilting posts and wishing I had a quilt that would be fun to hand quilt. I mean, she makes it looks so sunny and fun!
ReplyDeleteBut I know myself and I'd never get past the first hoop's worth of sewing.
Anyway, I think this quilt is perfect for hand quilting. It means a lot to you, the layout would look amazing highlighted by hand stitches and each block is different so you won't get bored.
And definitely check out Victoria's blog if you haven't already:

She pairs machine stitching and hand stitching...maybe you could do something similar for if you get sick of hand sewing.
