Hello Betty Retro is done!

Finally!! I finished this quilt! This was suppose to be a Christmas gift for my Mother-in-law, but it just never got done. Her birthday is in a little over a week, so it's now a birthday gift! Originally this was going to be a 9-patch quilt. I had bought 3 layer cakes and was making 9-patches. Well I wasn't too crazy about them. They were the 1st ones I've ever done, and I just wasn't diggin' them. Plus I was getting really tired of making them after 1 layer cake and when I knew I had at least one more layer cake to do, I decided on something different. This is what I came up with. The center of the quilt is quilted with a meander stipple stitch and then the white borders are all straight line quilted. And oh my did that take FOREVER!! This quilt measures 58"x68"

The back is completely pieced with my leftover 9-patch blocks and the rest of the layer cake. It's binded with Kona Chocolate Brown (I think that was the color!)

  1. It looks great and I'm sure your mil will love it!!! :)

Your quilting looks great too! Did you like doing the straight line quilting? I always think it looks really cool and modern, but I don't like doing it myself.

  2. I love this quilt! I especially love the big squares in the center but then something a little more exciting at the sides. I'm thinking of how I'm going to use my Neptune fabric and I really like this idea!

I also love the fabrics...the colors are wonderful! I hope your mother in law loves it!

  5. Wow Jen!! I love this quilt! The fabrics are great as is your improvised pattern. Sometimes those turn out to be better than your original idea! And the back?! Holy cow. x

  6. The front of this quilt reminds me of a window with shutters on both sides! And the back is just as crafty as the front, very pretty! I'd say that your mother in law will have a hard time deciding on which side to show off!!
